Mental Health and Wellbeing
Mental health and wellbeing is a key focus for us at Epping Primary, with emotional wellbeing and mental health permeating everything we do.
We have a lovely environment that prioritises student wellbeing through its thoughtful use of outdoor spaces and natural surroundings. The school grounds feature greenery, open spaces, and sheltered areas, providing opportunities for outdoor learning, fresh air, and physical activity.
A daily mile track supports physical well-being, while the pond with a dipping platform, story circle area, and garden allotment encourages exploration, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning.
Read on for lots more about the extensive programmes and systems we have in place to support our commitment to the wellbeing of our whole school community.
Soft Start Entrance
We have a soft start area to support families and children who struggle coming into school. This is a quiet area with easy access and a range of activities to support individual needs and consistent staffing to provide the stability required for children with Emotion Based School Anxiety.
Wellbeing Award
Initially awarded in 2020 and revalidated in 2024, we are very proud to hold national Wellbeing Award. This award has been developed with the National Children’s Bureau and focuses on the importance of developing a healthy emotional well- being and mental health for both pupils and staff.

Growth Mindset
At Epping Primary School we have used science and research to review our way of teaching and learning. Staff, pupils and parents/carers have learnt how a growth mindset and praise for effort can improve outcomes for all.
In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work (brains and talent are just the starting point). This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.

Trauma Perception Practice
Trauma Perception Practice (TPP) is the Essex approach to understanding behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing. It promotes a shift in values and mindsets to a trauma perceptive description of vulnerable children and young people.
Epping Primary School is proud to be an advanced TPP school. Staff have been trained in the nine key elements to ensure a consistent, whole-school approach rooted in shared values and understanding.
