Trauma Perception Practise

Trauma Perception Practice (TPP) is the Essex approach to understanding behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing.
It promotes a shift in values and mindsets to a trauma perceptive description of vulnerable children and young people to create:
- Compassion and kindness (instead of blame and shame)
- Hope (instead of hopelessness)
- Connection and belonging (rather than disconnection)
Epping Primary School is proud to be an advanced TPP school. Staff have been trained in the nine key elements to ensure a consistent, whole-school approach rooted in shared values and understanding.
Our aim is to create a school community that prioritises positive relationships, uses a shared language around TPP, and recognises that all behaviour is a form of communication. This approach underpins our policies and daily practice across the school.
As part of this commitment, we have reviewed and updated our Behaviour Policy to reflect TPP principles. This is now known as our Behaviour and Relationships Policy, emphasising the importance of connection, understanding, and support.
TPP works alongside our use of Zones of Regulation, and myHappymind which provides children with the tools, language, and skills to recognise, understand, and manage their emotions effectively
